Requirements
- Language proficiency: Bahasa Malaysia.
- The appointed person must work together with Shift Supervisor and/or Manager to ensure high standards of behaviour, discipline and attendance is met.
- Responsible for managing and monitoring the Environment Health and Safety (EHS) compliance of all workers to achieve a zero-accident outcome at the site.
- Conduct frequent EHS briefings and toolbox talks are provided for every shift e.g. at the start of the shift. The person must drive to embed a work safe mindset and behaviours in the workers.
- Conduct frequent EHS workplace inspections and checks during the shift for the purposes of ensuring compliance to EHS requirements and to check the understanding of workers on the EHS hazards and risks in their work areas.
- Ensure the workers report ZAPs when safety non-compliance or unsafe work conditions are detected. The ZAP targets for the workers should be met.
- Ensure that disciplinary actions for workers (if required) are taken both fairly and swiftly. Equally, to recognize and reward positive behaviours demonstrated by them.
- Ensure that all incidents e.g. first aid incidents, injury or illness, non-compliant behaviours such as smoking or mobile phone use is investigated and reported to the Company immediately. An investigation report must be submitted in a timely manner.
- Deliver the required training on work instructions and risk assessments as required to ensure the workers develop an understanding of their work hazards and risks.
- Assist the Shift Supervisor and/or as required such as for manpower planning, report writing, training and documentation.
Responsibilities
- Expectation of this job holder: Be a role model to others, display positive leadership traits and management skills, have the ability to guide and positively influence the behaviours of all personnel. Must be present at site during the shift assigned, in close communication with the Company’s employee in charge of operations.
- Specific daily expectations: During the shift operation assigned, the Safety Officer should perform an hourly Safety inspection /walkdown across various lines, work stations to monitor the performance and provide oversight of workers.
- Develop and implement safety and security policies and procedures to ensure the protection of personnel, property, and assets.
- Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify potential hazards or security breaches and take corrective actions.
- Monitor surveillance equipment, alarms, and access control systems to detect and prevent unauthorized access or activities.
- Coordinate with law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, and other external partners during emergencies or security incidents.
- Conduct safety and security training sessions for employees to enhance awareness and response capabilities.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, or security breaches and prepare detailed reports documenting findings and recommendations for improvement.
- Maintain accurate records of safety and security-related activities, including incident reports, training records, and equipment maintenance logs.
- Provide guidance and support to staff on safety and security matters, including emergency response procedures and crisis management.
- Stay informed about current safety and security trends, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with other departments to develop and implement integrated safety and security plans that align with organizational goals and objectives.
