JOB PURPOSE

The Art Technician is responsible for the upkeep of resources and provisions of resources for the Art staff. To provide technical support to the Art departments, by the preparation of resources equipment and materials for lessons and displays including upkeep.

KEY RESULTS AREAS/RESPONSIBILITIES

Monitor supply levels.
Aid staff with preparation of teaching resources
Regulation of stock.
Upkeep of equipment.

JOB TASKS

To order materials and tools via normal school procedure, as required and authorised by each head of department.
To prepare materials for Art lessons in Primary classes, as requested by each member of a department, using the appropriate methods. This will include preparing clay for use in ceramics lessons and preparation of digital imaging equipment and studio equipment for photography lessons.
To liaise with the caretaker or the cleaning supervisor if the standard of cleaning falls below an acceptable level.
To assist in design and installation of effective visual displays
To report all Health and Safety hazards to the appropriate head of department.
To ensure departmental first aid boxes are kept up to date and stocked.
To carry out other tasks reasonably requested by each head of department, in accordance with the post holder’s skills and qualifications
To manage clay recycling
To manage stock Inventories
To support in lessons as appropriate
To support students in using photographic equipment where appropriate
Photocopying and printing for staff upon reasonable request
Preparation of resource trolleys for Primary Art classes
Upkeep of IT and digital equipment in the Art Department, loaning and return.
Assist in deploying maintenance department for general upkeep of workspaces

MINIMUM ACADEMIC/PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION

Degree in Art

RELATED EXPERIENCE

Experience working in an educational institution is an advantage, and an interest in pursuing teaching as a possible future career progression pathway is desirable

A good command of spoken and written English (to communicate effectively with teachers and understand general maintenance of equipment instructions written in English).

Knowledge of local sources of material
Good knowledge of IT, digital imaging and photography
Knowledge of design principles
