History

A group of passionate engineers and one brainstorming product idea in 1989 has evolved Garmin today - the global leader of GPS Navigation with No.1 in PND (Portable Navigation Device) market share worldwide. From manufacturing the first handheld GPS receiver which was proved popular with military personnel serving during the First Persian Gulf War, the built-in functions that Garmin products adapted and improved have gone far beyond the traditional GPS receivers and set the milestone in the GPS development and technology.

CAR NEVIGATION The multi-function Portable unit is our own innovation. A complete line of navigation choices is offered: visionary glass-cockpit system, Jeppesen® database, flexible design of customized map display, flight-critical user interface, advanced communication system, radar, autopilots, and many more. MARINE Not only finding fish made simpler than ever, Garmin developed a whole series of panel-mount marine navigation system also for helmsmen and adventurers. Preloaded with the remarkable navigation system, impressively detailed maps, and many other real-time and practical information such as the sea level, tides, and the time of sunrise and sunset, every product is the combination of art and technology.

Financial

Garmin began public trading on NASDAQ in 2000 and is listed NASDAQ 100. In 2008, Garmin employee worldwide has grew to a work force of almost 9,000, with the accreditations and certifications of FAA, QS 9000, ISO 9001, and TS *6949. There are six facilities in the world: Garmin (Asia) Corporation – Taiwan – Shijr, Linkou, Jhongli Garmin International, Inc. – USA – Kansas, Olathe Garmin (Europe) Ltd. – UK – Southampton Garmin AT, Inc. USA – Oregon The Shijr facility is currently the main manufacturing center, having a total of 15 SMT production lines. Jhongli plant set up on June, 2006 and currently has a total of 18 SMT production lines. On June, 2006, Garmin purchased the third facility at Linlou and began the production SMT line on July, 2007.
