Global Movement Of Moderate Foundation

On 27th September 2010, at the 65th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Malaysian Prime Minister, YAB Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak delivered a speech calling for members and leaders of the world's major faiths to censure and reject their own extremists and jointly support a Global Movement of Moderates (GMM).

 

 

The concept was further expounded by YAB Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak at prestigious platforms including Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, East-West Center, the Asia-Europe Meeting, the ASEAN Summit and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. The concept received considerable support by both governments and non-governmental organisations.

 

The GMM initiative was adopted by the 20th ASEAN Summit in Phnom Penh on 3rd April 2012, and it is envisaged that the GMM be promoted within the ASEAN member states to achieve global peace. At the inaugural International Conference on GMM held in Kuala Lumpur on 17th-19th January 2012, YAB Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak called for the establishment of Global Movement of Moderates Foundation (GMMF) as a centre of first resort in the dissemination of information on the concept of moderation in combating the scourge of extremism in five broad areas including peaceful co-existence, democracy and rule of law, finance, education and conflict resolution.
