When Yong Sifu was young, he was dropped out from school due to family difficulties and poverty. He was only 12 when he started his journey as a cook. He was an apprentice in a restaurant and learned mainly Cantonese Cuisine. When he first venture into the life as a cook, the young Yong Sifu was forced to work up to 12 hours every single day.

After 9 years of hard work, at the age of 21, he finally got promoted to the head chef position and began to work independently. However, a promotion could not contain his higher ambitions to be the best in the industry. Eventually, he left the place and set up his very own restaurant. In 1987 he created his signature dish – “the Butter Prawn”, that is enjoyed by the masses.

What concerns Yong Sifu the most is the ingredients used to prepare his dishes must be fresh. Being in the cooking industry for more than 40 years, he is very particular on how the dishes smell, taste, and presentation. Yong Sifu’s principle in cooking is that his customers must always enjoy and be satisfied with their meals.
